Itinerary Day 1. Arrive Prague On arrival in Prague today be met at the airport by an APT representative and transferred to your hotel, in the centre of Prague. Enjoy the rest of the afternoon at leisure. This evening meet your fellow travellers for a Welcome Reception. Three Night Stay: The luxurious Prague Imperial Hotel or President Hotel Prague Day 2. Prague Sightseeing Today join a sightseeing tour of Prague’s Old Town. Visit the 1,000 year-old Hradcany Castle courtyard and St Vitus then walk over Charles Bridge to the Old Market Square. The rest of the day is then at your leisure to further explore. After an exciting day of discovery, gather with your fellow travellers for a Welcome Dinner tonight. Bx1 Dx1 Day 3. Prague at Leisure Today enjoy a day at leisure to relax or further explore the sights of Prague for yourself. You may wish to join an optional excursion to Kutná Hora, with its pastel-hued square, cafés, medieval alleys and facades ranging from Gothic to Neoclassical. Or you might like to join an excursion to Terezín Concentration Camp Memorial, offering an insight into what was an horrific but fascinating era (both excursions at own expense). Bx1 Day 4. Prague - Berlin Today your journey takes you across the German border to the beautiful, World Heritage-listed Dresden Elbe Valley. Running 20 kilometres through the city of Dresden, the unique valley is part of the urban area as well as part of the natural river banks and slopes. In Dresden itself, you’ll visit the Castle of the Electors of Saxony including the Saxon Wall, the Semper Opera House and the Frauenkirche - Church of Our Lady, reconstructed after its destruction in World War II. Then continue via the cultivated water landscape of Spreewald Forest before arriving in Berlin. After dinner this evening, perhaps take in the city’s famed nightlife. A tour of Berlin today takes in the Reichstag, Brandenburg Gate, the Berlin State Opera House and AlexanderPlatz, the large open square and public transport hub in Berlin’s centre. You’ll also see some of the ruins of the Berlin Wall, the rise and fall of which played a huge role in shaping Germany as it is today. After lunch, board a coach for an excursion to Potsdam, the former centre of Prussia. Here, visit the Sanssoucci Neue Palais, the burial site of Frederick the Great. Bx1 Day 6. Berlin - Warsaw Leaving Berlin this morning, travel across Northern Germany into Poland and on to the country’s capital, Warsaw. On arrival, check in to your hotel before dinner. Warsaw Sightseeing Warsaw is an extraordinary city in which buildings, palaces, churches and architectural complexes, destroyed during World War II, have been reconstructed with great care. On a tour here, you’ll gain a glimpse into the effect that the war had on the city and its people. Visit the site of the Jewish Ghetto and the Palace of Culture before heading to the tranquil grounds of Lazienki Park. Occupying 76 hectares of the city centre, the park is the largest in Warsaw and a popular spot for locals and visitors alike. See the Palace on the Water, Lazienki Palace, set on an artificial island on Lazienki Lake, as well as the Roman-inspired amphitheatre and the statue erected in honour of locally-born Frédéric Chopin. Later, enjoy free time or take an optional excursion to Wilanów and Wilanów Palace, a second home to many Polish kings over time (own expense). Bx1 Day 8. Warsaw - Kraków Today after breakfast, travel to Kraków, the seat of Polish kings for five centuries. On the way, stop at Czestochowa for a guided tour. Visit Paulite Monastery at Jasna Gora to see the Black Madonna, a holy icon of the Virgin Mary, that is both Poland’s holiest relic and one of the country’s national symbols. Later, stop at the Auschwitz Birkenau Museum for a documentary telling of the plight of the Jews who were sent to the infamous concentration camp, before arriving in Kraków and transferring to your hotel. Kraków Sightseeing Today, take a guided sightseeing tour of Kraków, which includes the Cathedral and Castle on Wawel Hill, St Mary’s Church and Cloth Hall. Take a medieval tour, or visit some of the landmarks of the city’s not so distant Communist past. The rest of the afternoon is then at leisure, followed by dinner as you cruise towards Vienna. Linz - Passau, Freedom of Choice Touring Upon arrival in Linz today, perhaps join a day tour to Salzburg and its ‘Sound of Music’ sights or take a trip to Cesky Krumlov in the Czech Republic before travelling by coach to rejoin the ship in Passau. During a tour here today, you’ll see the Residential Palace as well as a number of churches ranging in styles from Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque to Modern. Later, enjoy free time or take an included tour to Rothenburg, a beautiful walled town that overlooks the Tauber River. Bx1 Lx1 Dx1 Day 20. Miltenberg - Wertheim Still in Germany this morning, arrive in Miltenberg and travel by coach to Wertheim, the epitome of a medieval German village. Then return to Miltenburg for a tour of this lovely Franconian town, revealing narrow cobblestone streets and gabled, half timbered houses. Re-board the ship, and cruise through the sunny valleys of the meandering Main. Your ship continues through the night for Rüdesheim. Bx1 Lx1 Dx1 Day 21. Rüdesheim - Rhine Castles - Koblenz Today arrive in Rüdesheim, where, the Winzerexpress mini-train will take you to Siegfried’s Mechanical Music Instrument Museum for a tour. Later, re-board your ship and cruise through the Rhine Gorge on what is perhaps the most beautiful stretch of the Rhine. Koblenz - Cologne This morning enjoy a walking tour of 2,000 year old Koblenz, located at the confluence of the Rhine and the Moselle rivers. Following this, continue along the Rhine to Cologne, where after dinner, an evening walk through the city takes you to the heart of town, set in one of Germany’s most important wine-producing regions.
