ITINERARY

Day 1. Arrive Budapest.

On arrival, join luxurious river cruise ship, the ms Amacello or ms Amalegro, which is moored near the city - centre. Meet your fellow travellers tonight at the Welcome Cocktail Reception. Following dinner, relax in the lounge or walk back into town to take in Amsterdam’s nightlife.

Day 2, Mon. Budapest.

The morning is free for last minute souvenir shopping. Afternoon sightseeing includes historic Buda Castle, where you have a splendid view of the twin cities of Buda and Pest spread over both banks of the River. Your tour also features 500 year old Matthias Church, St. Stephen’s Basilica, distinctive Fisherman’s Bastion, the marvellous Royal Palace and much more.

Day 3, Tue. Bratislava - Vienna

In the morning, a tour of Bratislava reveals the city’s major sights, including the Old Town Hall, Mirbach Palace and Gothic St. Martin’s Cathedral. From Bratislava Castle, you will enjoy breathtaking views overlooking three countries - Slovakia, Austria and Hungary. Spend afternoon crusing to Vienna. Then at your leisure or maybe join an optional tour to the imperial Schaunbrunn Palace. Dinner on board, followed by an evening music performance.

Day 4, Wed. Vienna

A wonderful day to savour the baroque elegance of Vienna. A guided sightseeing tour includes Hofburg Palace, the Vienna Opera House, Ringstrasse and St. Stephen’s Cathedral. Enjoy a free afternoon to stroll along the main shopping street, Kurntnerstrasse, or sample some of Vienna’s famous pastries. Tonight explore the vibrant Austrian capital on your own, or come along for an optional Mozart and Strauss concert.

Day 5, Thu. Krems - Durnstein - Melk.

Cruise through the lovely Wachau Valley, dotted with castles, to the little riverside towns of Krems, centre of the Wachau wine industry, which you will sample tonight. From here, continue on a short cruise to -Durnstein. Marvel at the blue Baroque Stifts-kirche. Above town you’ll spot the ruins of the castle where Richard the Lionheart, the King of England, was imprisoned in 1192. Your walking tour through cobblestone streets reveals quaint 16th century town houses and taverns. Continue through the Wachau Valley this afternoon. A guided tour takes you to Melk’s magnificent Benedictine Abbey, one of Europe’s largest baroque monasteries.

Day 6, Fri. Linz - Passau.

Early this morning the ship takes you through scenic valleys and past charming riverside towns. After breakfast, take an optional full day tour to Salzburg and its most popular Sound of Music sights including the Wedding Church, exquisite Mirabell Gardens, the Great Salzburg Festival Hall and much more. Or for those staying on board, take a walk through the delightful town of Linz, Austria’s third largest city and a major river port. Then enjoy a scenic cruise from Linz on to picturesque Passau, where the rivers Inn and Ilz join the Danube. During your walking tour, gaze at this fairy-tale city founded more than 2,000 years ago.

Day 7, Sat. Regensburg.

Visit Regensburg, one of Germany’s best preserved medieval cities, featuring one of the oldest bridges crossing the Danube. A guided tour includes the Old Town Hall and the Porta Pretoria - gates to a Roman fort built in 179 AD.

Day 8, Sun. Continental Divide - Nuremberg.

Continue to transit the Main-Danube Canal as you arrive at the highest point of your cruise 435 metres above sea level before descending through stair step locks. Enjoy a guided afternoon tour of this historic city of Nuremberg with its fabulous Gothic churches and -elegant patrician houses. See the storybook 900-year-old ramparts that surround the city, the Imperial Castle and the Justice Palace where the War Crimes Tribunal sat in 1946.

Day 9, Mon. Bamberg.

Continue along the Main-Danube Canal from ancient Nuremberg, capital of the state of Franconia. In the afternoon, enter the Main-Danube Canal at enchanting Bamberg, which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1993. Disembark for a guided tour of this medieval gem, with its uniquely intact townscape. Marvel at the Old Town Hall, which straddles the river, and the city’s serpentine streets with charming houses and 18th-century mansions. From here, travel through the picturesque countryside to rejoin your ship. .

Day 10, Tue. Wurzburg.

After a morning filled with beautiful Main River scenery, you’ll be romanced by Wurzburg. Surrounded by sloping hills covered with vineyards, the city is the capital of Lower Franconia, a centre of wine and trade. During your tour, see the major sights including the magnificent Resi-dential Palace. This afternoon explore Wurzburg on your own or take an optional excursion to medieval Rothenburg, a beautiful walled city situated on the Romanic Road. After dinner, enjoy a medieval music performance in the ship’s lounge.

Day 11, Wed. Miltenberg - Wertheim.

Travelling to Wertheim, where we witness a glass blowing performance before re-boarding the ship. Relax while you cruise through the sunny valleys of the meandering Main. Arrive in Miltenberg and disembark for a afternoon walking tour of this delightful old Franconian town, revealing narrow cobblestone streets and gabled, half timbered houses. Shop for souvenirs before enjoying dinner on board.

Day 12, Thu. Mainz.

Arrive in Mainz and enjoy a walking tour of this beautiful town, famous as the home of Gutenberg. There is free time to explore before the ship sails through the Rhine Gorge, the most beautiful stretch of the river, passing castle after castle. See the legendary Lorelei Rock, where sweet songs of local beauties lured enchanted sailors to their doom. Tonight’s Crew Show will conclude a great day of cruising.

Day 13, Fri. Koblenz - Cologne.

Continue to 2,000-year-old Koblenz, located at the confluence of the Rhine and the Moselle Rivers. Enjoy an city walk through town, set in one of Germany’s most important wine regions. Arrive in Cologne for a afternoon walking tour through the old part of the city.

Day 14, Sat. Amsterdam.

Arrive Amsterdam around lunch, admire the architecture of the city on a guided canal boat tour. Sail in the glass-top boat past beautiful 17th century homes, charming churches and 16th century merchant houses. Tonight you’ll be a guest at the Captain’s Gala Farewell Dinner.
