Itinerary

Day 1 Wed. April 21 . Arrive Istanbul

On arrival in Istanbul be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel, with the rest of the day at your leisure to settle in or explore. This evening meet your travelling companions and Tour Director at a Welcome Reception.
Three Night Stay: Istanbul, Kalyon Hotel

Day 2 Thurs. April 22 . Istanbul Sightseeing

This morning enjoy a sightseeing tour of Istanbul. Drive by Taksim Square, the hippodrome and Galata Tower. You’ll also visit the famous Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia, a former patriarchal basilica, then a mosque and now a museum that is one of the world’s best surviving examples of Byzantine architecture. Then this evening, enjoy a Welcome Dinner during which you’ll be entertained by a Turkish belly dancing performance.

Day 3 Fri. April 23 . Istanbul, Freedom of Choice Touring

This morning after breakfast, you have the opportunity to choose your touring activity in Istanbul thanks to our included Freedom of Choice Touring concept. You may choose to embark on a tour of Topkapi Palace, the official and primary residence of the Ottoman Sultans from 1465 to 1853. Alternatively, relax with a traditional Turkish bath experience and massage. Or you may like to visit the impressive Rüstem Pasha Mosque then wander around the bustling Spice Bazaar, before indulging in lunch at the well-known Orient Express railway restaurant.

Day 4 Sat. April 24 . Istanbul, Anzac Cove, Gallipoli

Leave Istanbul early this morning and travel via Tekirdag to the Gallipoli Peninsula. Arrive in Gelibolu and visit the Gelibolu War Museum then enjoy lunch in the town centre. Continue to the national park area for a guided sightseeing tour of the war memorials, including Lone Pine, Chunuk Bair and 57th cemetery. Later, you’ll head to Anzac Cove to settle in for the Dawn Service. Here, you will be accommodated in a secure outdoor area featuring entertainment such as live broadcasting from Australia and New Zealand, musical performances as well as interviews. Our experienced guides will accompany you throughout the evening.
Stay: Gallipoli Peninsula facilities are extremely limited and crowds here will be large. As you will be spending the night outdoors, a sleeping bag will be provided, however please be mindful that it will become cool overnight

Day 5 Sun. April 25 . Anzac Day Dawn Service, Anzac Cove, Gallipoli Peninsula, Assos

As the sun breaks the skyline at Anzac Cove on this special day, take part in the sombre occasion of the traditional Anzac Day Dawn Service and commemorate our fallen forefathers at 5.30 am. For those who wish, take the opportunity to walk to Lone Pine for the Australian service. Please note that this can be a challenging 2.5 kilometre walk approximately one hour on both flat and uphill pathways. Should you prefer, you will be able to view the Australian service from your position in Anzac Cove via the telecast on the big screen. Afterwards, regather and board your coach this afternoon for the ferry crossing and journey to Assos. On arrival, check in to your hotel for dinner and a well-deserved rest.

Day 6 Mon. April 26 . Troy, Istanbul

Today, journey to the ancient city of Troy, a place of mythology and legend. A guided tour here will bring this legendary city, as described in The Iliad, to life. Afterwards, return to Istanbul and enjoy the rest of the evening at leisure.

Day 7 Tues. April 27 . Istanbul, Budapest, Embark Cruise

Today, transfer to the airport for the short flight to Budapest, the Hungarian capital. On arrival, board your luxury river ship, moored on the Danube River in the heart of the city. This evening, settle in to your suite and enjoy a delicious dinner on board.

Day 8 Wed. April 28 . APT EXCLUSIVE! Budapest, Hungarian State Opera House

Today a tour of Budapest takes you to historic Buda Castle, 500 year-old Matthias Church, St Stephen’s Basilica, the Fisherman’s Bastion, the Royal Palace and more. Continue to the Hungarian State Opera House for a short opera recital, a guided tour and a glass of champagne. Then enjoy free time before tonight’s Captain’s Gala Welcome Dinner.

Day 9 Thurs. April 29 . Bratislava, Freedom of Choice Touring

Upon arrival in the Slovakian capital this morning, disembark and visit Bratislava Castle, where you’ll marvel at the sweeping views across Slovakia, Austria and Hungary. Then choose from a medieval tour, or perhaps visit the landmarks of the city’s not-so-distant Communist past. The rest of the afternoon is then at leisure.

Day 10 Fri. April 30 . Vienna, Freedom of Choice Touring

Enjoy a choice of touring options in Vienna today. Perhaps take a city tour, including Hofburg Imperial Palace, St Stephen’s Cathedral, Ringstrasse and more, as well as an Austrian coffee house for a coffee and cake. Or visit Schönbrunn Palace for a tour of the residence and an exploration of the gardens. Tonight after dinner, perhaps take in an optional Mozart and Strauss concert own expense .

This morning stop in Dürnstein for a tour, then continue to Melk and take a tour of Melk’s magnificent Benedictine Abbey, before an evening wine tasting.

Upon arrival in Linz today, perhaps join a day tour to Salzburg and its ‘Sound of Music’ sights or take a trip to Cesky Krumlov in the Czech Republic before travelling by coach to rejoin the ship in Passau. Alternatively, you might like to stay on board and cruise to Passau for a tour of this historic city.

Arrive in Regensburg this morning, one of Germany’s best preserved medieval cities. Here, a tour includes the Porta Pretoria - gates to an ancient Roman fort built in 179 AD.

Day 14 Tues. May 4 . Nuremberg, Freedom of Choice Touring

Today enter the Main-Danube Canal, and cruise through the Altmühl Valley. Dock in Nuremberg and choose to take a medieval city tour or perhaps visit a number significant World War II sites.

Today, disembark the ship just outside of Bamberg and travel by coach into this enchanting city. As one of the few cities in Germany that wasn’t destroyed by bombs during World War II, Bamberg was declared a World Heritage-listed site in 1993. Take a tour of the city then, during time at leisure, perhaps visit a traditional Bamberg Beer Haus and enjoy a local brew compliments of APT, before your cruise continues, now on the Main River.

Day 16 Thurs. May 6 . Würzburg

This morning after breakfast, arrive in the heart of Würzburg, the capital of Lower Franconia. During a tour here, see the Resi-dential Palace as well as a number of churches ranging in styles from Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque to Modern. Later, enjoy free time or take an included tour to Rothenburg, a beautiful walled town that overlooks the Tauber River.

Day 17 Fri. May 7 . Miltenberg - Wertheim

Still in Germany this morning, arrive in Miltenberg and travel by coach to Wertheim, the epitome of a medieval German village. Then return to Miltenberg for a tour of this lovely Franconian town, revealing narrow cobblestone streets and gabled, half-timbered houses. Re-board the ship, and cruise through the valleys of the meandering Main. Your ship continues through the night for Rüdesheim.

Day 18 Sat. May 8 . Rüdesheim - Rhine Castles - Koblenz

Today arrive in Rüdesheim, where the Winzerexpress mini-train will take you to Siegfried’s Mechanical Music Instrument Museum for a fascinating tour. Afterwards, re-board your ship and cruise through the Rhine Gorge on what is perhaps the most beautiful stretch of the Rhine. After dinner this evening, an amusing Crew Show concludes a great day of cruising.

Day 19 Sun. May 9 . Koblenz - Cologne

This morning enjoy a tour of 2,000 year-old Koblenz, located at the confluence of the Rhine and the Moselle rivers. Following this, continue along the Rhine to Cologne, set in one of Germany’s most important wine-producing regions. After dinner, take an evening walk through the heart of the city.

Day 20 Mon. May 10 . Cologne - Amsterdam, Freedom of Choice Touring

After a morning of cruising, arrive in Amsterdam, where you have a choice of touring activities. You might like to admire the city on a leisurely canal boat tour, or perhaps visit the Van Gogh Museum for an appreciation of the Dutch artist’s finest works. Then, after free time, enjoy a Farewell Dinner on board. Tonight, perhaps head in to town to absorb the nightlife.
